Cheesemaking Assistant   Part Time

Love the food world and eager to help us bring cheese to the people? We're looking for a third person to join Shepherd's Way Farms award-winning farmstead cheese production team.

​

Excellent position for a food industry professional interested in participating in all aspects of farmstead sheep cheese production. Training & education opportunities. Long-term potential for position to evolve & include more cheesemaking responsibilities.

​​

  • Work includes production cleanup and sanitation,

  • prepping cheese for orders & farmers markets (cut & wrap)

  • order fulfillment

  • packing & shipping

  • bottling milk/bottle washing

  • food safety documentation

  • assisting with cheesemaking and cheese tending

Interesting environment, fast-paced and varied work, includes many cheese perks.

Ideal candidate will have a passion for cheese, be able to work well in a variety of environments and to maintain focus and a positive work atmosphere. The position also requires ability to prioritize and problem solve. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, adjust to shifting tasks and find deep satisfaction in a job well done. If you're energetic, reliable, and focused, we'd like to talk!

Previous experience in food industry essential, experience with cheese or cheesemaking preferred. FSMA, HACCP, and PQCI knowledge useful. ​​

Shepherd’s Way Farms is located between Northfield and Faribault, Minnesota. Ability to reliably commute during all weather is essential.

​​

Part-time, 20-26 hours per week depending on season. Additional hours in cheesemaking and other areas (deliveries, farmers markets, farm) may be possible.

​​

Primarily Mon-Fri hours (daytime) with occasional short Sat a.m hours. Compensation based on experience, includes cheese CSA & pd vacation time. $18-$21/hour

Milking Technician PT      All Shifts -- Morning, Afternoon/Eve, Weekends/Weekdays

Join our award-winning small farm sheep dairy crew!
Shepherd’s Way Farms offers flexibility and an interesting, varied professional farm environment with ongoing training. 
The Sheep Dairy Technician is responsible for milking sheep, parlor sanitation, assisting with animal care (watering, bedding, feeding), routine farm chores. During lambing, additional responsibilities and hours possible.
The ideal milking team member is energetic and reliable, works well with animals and find satisfaction in a job well done. This work requires stamina, attention to detail and to the big picture, the ability to lift 50 lbs and a can-do work style.
Animal experience required. Milking experience, sanitation knowledge, and skidsteer and general repair experience useful. Must be able to work well independently and as part of a small team.
Compensation based on experience & productivity, includes paid time off and a cheese share. $18-21.50/hour
Must be currently authorized to work in the United States and available to begin work within two weeks. Proficient English required.
Multiple shifts available: Weekend AM 6-11am; Weekend PM 4-9pm; Weekday AM 6-11, PM 4-9pm Additional hours may be available.

​​​Farmers Market Sales Associate  2026 Season    POSITIONS FILLED

Join us for a lively and fun farmers market season! We are seeking enthusiastic and dependable people who love cheese to join our team at Mill City and Apple Valley farmers markets as a sales person. Three positions available, including a rotating substitute position filling in various markets (Apple Valley, St Paul and Mill City) as needed. Perfect weekend position for someone who enjoys engaging with customers and is passionate about promoting high-quality, locally produced sheep cheese, sheep milk, and lamb.

Position Details    Apple Valley Farmers Market:  *POSITION FILLED

  • Role: Farmers Market Sales Associate – Sheep Dairy & Lamb Products

  • ​Schedule:  Saturdays  8am-2pm  June-October    Actual Apple Valley open market hours 10am-1pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Load van at farm near Nerstrand (close to Northfield), drive to Apple Valley Market to unload and set up.

  • Set up and break down the market stall. Must be able to lift 50 lbs minimum. Load van and transport back to farm, unload at farm.

  • Ensure display is attractive and products are well-stocked. Ensure products remain cold.

  • Educate customers on benefits and unique qualities of sheep dairy and lamb products.

  • Execute efficient POS (square) and cash transactions

  • Foster a warm, community-oriented atmosphere at market. Mill City Farmers Market, St Paul Farmers Market Lowertown & Apple Valley Farmers Market  (St Paul Farmers Market on Sundays)

Position Details    Mill City Farmers Market   *POSITION FILLED

  • Role: Farmers Market Sales Associate -- Sheep Dairy & Lamb Products

  • Schedule: Saturdays  5:30 am -1:30pm  Actual open market hours 8am-1pm   May-October

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and engage customers with detailed information about our local sheep cheese, milk, wool and lamb products

  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently

  • Meet at market site to unload van.

  • Set up and break down the market stall, load van.

  • Ensure the display is attractive and products are well-stocked

  • Educate customers on the benefits and unique qualities of sheep dairy and lamb products

  • Execute efficient POS and cash transactions.

  • Foster a warm, community-oriented atmosphere at the market

Position Details    Market Substitute *POSITION FILLED

This position is a fill-in position that would rotate among Mill City Farmers Market, St Paul Farmers Market, Apple Valley Farmers Market as needed. Must be available Saturdays May-October, and some Sundays.

What We’re Looking For:​

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A passion for local food (especially cheese!) and a knack for storytelling about its origins

  • Ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment

  • Previous sales or customer service experience is a plus, but not required

  • Reliability and availability to work Saturdays (and some Sundays for subsitute) throughout the season

  • Able to lift 50 lbs

  • Good driving record

Compensation: $20/hr
