Visiting the Farm Leading, Teaching, Inspiring Shepherd’s Way has hosted thousands of visitors to the farm, educating and promoting sustainable agriculture, land stewardship, local foods and breed conservancy. Visiting groups have represented academics, national adult educators, farmers, international dairy shepherds, heritage preservation supporters, school children, women’s organizations, sustainable farming associations, cheesemakers, tours organized by local retail stores, natural food cooperative members and international visitors from six continents. October 2004, Jodi and Steven were among the 500 food producers chosen by local Slow Food Conviviums to represent the United States at the first Terra Madre Conference sponsored by Slow Foods International in Torino, Italy. Steven Read is a frequent invited speaker on sustainable and value-added agriculture, local foods, marketing and business development for groups such as the National Dairy Sheep Association, the Minnesota Organic Conference, the Minnesota Grazing Conference, Rotary, many local sustainable associations and community schools, colleges and universities. Jodi Ohlsen Read, award winning artisan cheesemaker, has worked with cheesemakers around the country. She promotes artisan cheesemaking and local foods through organizations such as Sustainable Farming Association, Slow Foods USA, Living Green Expo, the American Cheese Society, and the National Preservation Society; on radio programs including MPR and Local Food Hero Radio Show; and in print including Minnesota Parent, Metro magazine, the Mix and Sheep. |
